NAINOKANOKA
SCHOOL
(Nainokanoka). In 2001 Thomson Safaris took a number of Shady Hill
families to the Maasai village of Nainokanoka, near Ngorongoro Crater,
to visit a traditional Maasai enclave as well as a medical clinic
and an elementary school. Tom Vorenberg, a Shady Hill teacher, gave
impromptu lessons in a Nainokanoka classroom. After representatives
of Friends of Tanzanian Schools met officials of Nainokanoka and
discussed the Maasai school’s need to rebuild crumbling classroom
buildings, FOTZS voted to contribute funds to do an interim rehabilitation
of the classroom. The construction project took place in 2002.
